Travel journal: India (I)
Travelling is a marvellous thing. It is a unique opportunity to connect with the world, discovering each place, the people who are part of it. You coexist with other cultures, becoming a more empathetic person. Indeed travelling, undoubtedly, is food for the soul and it furnishes the mind.
This trip has been especially revealing. Accompanied by my backpack, my notebook and Towanda, India under my feet is turning into a dream come true. Before coming here, in my mind I had made up hundreds of stories, I had imagined its smells and colours, its magnificence. But just like in the best tales, the reality is always better than the fiction.
The people here are particularly spiritual. It doesn’t matter how much you have, that doesn’t make you a better person or more important. What you have inside is what counts. It is something that is always worth remembering, because it makes you connect with yourself again, look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself about all the things that you do well.
During the trip I always have my camera with me. Sometimes we create unforgettable images in our retina, which live in our memory forever. Other times I feel the need to transfer these incredibly impressive pictures to my scrapbook, because one photograph becomes a direct ticket to a memory. And this trip has many in store for us for sure.
One of the most striking things about India is its pace of life. It surprises me how a country full of such spiritual people, who live life is such a relaxed, leisurely way, can move so fast. Its streets are crammed with people, animals, tourists… they all set the constant pace that makes Towanda and I move in time to the beat, observing each new scene before us with our eyes wide open.
I can’t wait to see what new experiences we will discover in this thrilling country.
